Been fantasizing about the past lately. So many throwbacks. Came across this song/movie right before my mom asked if I wanna go back to Vietnam in July. While Vietnamese is not an identity I claim to be a major part of me, at least more than half of my life (as of now) was spent in Vietnam. I know the language, experienced the culture, and lived through the institutions. I was part of the community. So while I don’t claim the identity, the memories are what excite me about the upcoming trip. It’s also party because of, and I’m not kidding, Facebook. Over the past two years or so, more and more of my friends from middle school and high school have found and added me (even with my “Anglicized” public name of Stan). Some got married, others are pursuing higher education in other countries. And one recently passed away. It’s amazing how we are connected and keep in touch in this era. Without Facebook I wouldn’t know how to contact them for a meet-up. So here’s to visting the past and reconnecting with old friends.
